Weekend at the Crater Lakes

2 dads

8 miles hiked
0 running miles
1 Amazing Weekend

Scott & I took our daughters on our second annual backpacking trip.  This year we added my youngest (6) and an extra night.  We decided upon the Crater Lakes in the James Peak Wilderness.  There was no formal training this weekend, but hiking on some technical trails with about 1400' of climbing and a 65 lb. backpack has got to count for something.

The main lower lake.  The view from close to our campsite.

Our girls were crazy about finding Columbines.

The waterfall & wildflowers.

The cascading waterfall/creek dropped about 400' to the lake below.

The upper lake nestled up against the Divide.

Scott's daughter said she felt like she was in a "fairytale".

Our campsite was straight ahead across the lake.

  2. I think it's awesome that you take your kids camping... especially cause they're girls!!! Most dads wouldn't do that!

  3. Thanks Mallory! Yeah, times like this are a definite priority for me. I'm sure even more dads wouldn't do it if I shared stories about taking them to do their business in the woods! Haha!
